How to Get to Anaheim

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is the closest airport to Anaheim. The airport is located about 13 miles from the Disneyland Resort. You can take a taxi, rideshare service, or shuttle bus from the airport to the Disneyland Resort entrance.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is a larger airport with more flight options, but it is also located about 35 miles from Anaheim. You can take a taxi, rideshare service, or shuttle bus from the airport to the Disneyland Resort entrance.

Driving

From Los Angeles, take the I-5 South freeway to Exit 110B for Disneyland Drive. Follow Disneyland Drive for about 2 miles until you reach the Disneyland Resort entrance. From San Diego, take the I-5 North freeway to Exit 112B for Katella Avenue. Follow Katella Avenue for about 3 miles until you reach the Disneyland Resort entrance. From San Jose, take the I-5 South freeway to Exit 124B for CA-91 East. Follow CA-91 East to Exit 11B for CA-57 North. Take CA-57 North to Exit 1B for South Anaheim Boulevard. Follow South Anaheim Boulevard to West Katella Avenue, and then turn right onto South Disneyland Drive. The Disneyland Resort entrance is about 1 mile ahead.

ARRIVING

Florence is easily reached by plane, train or car. The city has its own international airport (Amerigo Vespucci) and Pisa International Airport is just 50 km away. Florence is a major high-speed railway hub with trains leaving regularly for the whole of Italy. Florence is located on the main Italian motorway, the A1, which connects Milan and Naples.

BY PLANE

AMERIGO VESPUCCI AIRPORT – FLORENCE

Florence Airport is only 5 km from the city centre. Visitors can take a taxi to the centre in just 15 minutes (for the city centre and main hotels, the flat rate is € 22; € 24 at weekends and on national holidays and € 25 at night; for other destinations, ask the driver or check the price list in the taxi; tel. 055 4242). Alternatively, take the Vola in bus shuttle bus (€ 5 one-way, € 8 round trip; for more information, visit the ATAF website).

GALILEO GALILEI AIRPORT – PISA

Pisa Airport is about 1 km from the Pisa Centrale railway station and is connected by the People Mover shuttle bus. Florence is about 1 hour away by train. You can also reach Florence with the Terravision bus.

BY CAR

Arriving in Florence by car is straightforward. The A1 Milano-Napoli motorway intersects around Florence with the A12 Firenze-Pisa Nord motorway, which connects Tuscany’s main cities, such as Prato, Pistoia, Lucca and Pisa.

The A1 exits for Florence are Firenze Nord, Firenze Scandicci, Firenze Impruneta and Firenze Sud. There is also a new exit, Villa Costanza, which leads to paid parking near the T1 line of the tram (the tram stop is also called Villa Costanza). From there, you can easily reach the city centre in around 20 minutes.

The exits for other towns in Florence’s metropolitan area are Barberino di Mugello, Calenzano-Sesto Fiorentino, Incisa-Reggello and Valdarno. For towns in the Valdelsa, you can take the Strada di Grande Comunicazione Fi-Pi-Li (exits at Montelupo F.no and Empoli).

If you come to Florence by car, remember that traffic in the city centre is limited by the ZTL (Zona Traffico Limitato). The ZTL requires that you leave your car at one of the many car parks operated by the “Firenze Parcheggi” network, whose costs and hours vary according to the car park (prices vary from € 1.60 to € 2 per hour).

Remember that the underground car park at the Santa Maria Novella railway station costs more than the other car parks; hence long stays are not recommended.

BY TRAIN

Firenze Santa Maria Novella is the main station in Florence. It is located in the city centre and is a major transport hub on the Milan-Naples line, well connected to major Italian cities by high-speed train.

Regional trains also arrive and depart from Santa Maria Novella several times per hour, connecting Florence to other cities in Tuscany. There are also interregional and international trains. For information and to purchase tickets, visit the Trenitalia website.

High Altitude Precautions

Altitude Illness. Above 8,000 feet (2,424 m), many vacationers suffer from altitude illness. There are varying degrees of illness and the most common are altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness (AMS). Acute Mountain Sickness. For those who get AMS, it generally occurs between 6,000 and 10,000 feet and causes mild symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea and poor sleep. Symptoms often clear up in a day or two, but if they don’t you may need to go to a lower altitude until you feel better. Going from low elevation to high elevation quickly will increase your odds of feeling altitude illness. Other, less common types of altitude illness include high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE). Symptoms of HAPE include difficulty breathing, chest tightness, cough, and fatigue. Symptoms of HACE include confusion, lack of coordination, stumbling and poor balance. Both of these conditions occur most often over 10,000 feet and are serious conditions that require immediate medical attention.

How To Prevent High Altitude Illness

Move to higher altitudes gradually. Give your body time to acclimate and adjust. After 8000 feet, ascend no more than 1000 feet per day.
If you have a headache or lack of coordination or other symptoms of altitude illness, don’t go any higher.
If possible, sleep at a lower altitude than you are at during the day.
Ask your doctor if medications for altitude illness (acetazolamide (Diamox, Dazamide)) would be helpful for you.
Carry rain gear/warm clothing because mountain weather can change quickly.
Drink plenty of liquids while exercising (16-32 oz/hour or more in hotter weather).
Wear light-colored clothes that wick moisture, like Cool-Max.
Use sunscreen to help prevent sunburn.
If you feel your performance drop quickly, rest and try to cool off.
Do not drink alcohol/caffeine before or immediately after exercising at altitude.

AIR TRAVEL INFORMATION: The JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa is located in Guanacaste, in the northwest area of Costa Rica. You can fly into Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR – known as Liberia International Airport), which is an approximate 1-¼ hour drive to the hotel; however, lower fares can often be found by flying into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO), located in Costa Rica’s capital city of San Jose, which is an approximate 4-5 hour drive to the hotel.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS & IMMIGRATION

All persons traveling by air between the United States and Costa Rica are required to present a valid passport to enter or re-enter the United States. We suggest you allow a minimum of two to three months to obtain or renew your passport. Generally, your passport cannot expire within 6 months after the date of your trip; however, each country varies, so check with your local passport agency to verify. Children must also have valid passports. Children traveling with an adult other than their parent or with only one parent must carry notarized written permission from any parent or guardian not traveling with the child to or from Costa Rica. This permission must include the name of the parent, the name of the child, the name of anyone traveling with the child, and the notarized signature(s) of the absent parent(s). The State Department recommends that the permission should include travel dates, destinations, airlines, and a brief summary of the circumstances surrounding the travel. The child must be carrying the original letter – not a facsimile or scanned copy – as well as proof of the parent/child relationship (usually a birth certificate or court document) – and an original custody decree, if applicable. If you have adopted children, please be sure to have your adoption papers with you.

Upon your arrival in Costa Rica you will go through customs and immigration and upon your departure you will have to clear U.S. customs and immigration at your first point of entry back into the U.S.

Time Zone: Central Standard Time all year round, Costa Rica does NOT observe daylight saving.

Languages Spoken: Spanish is the official language, while English is widely spoken throughout the country.

Currency: monetary exchange is in Colones, but the American dollar is widely accepted. The rate of exchange is controlled by the Central Bank.

Electrical System: standard electricity in Costa Rica is the same as in the United States and Canada: 110 volts AC (60 cycles) and outlets are the same.

Water: tap water in Costa Rica is generally considered safe to drink; however, water quality varies widely outside of major cities. To ensure a comfortable trip, only bottled water should be consumed.

Phone Network: international mobile service is efficient and Costa Rica, make sure you activate the roaming service with your supplier. Internet service is widespread throughout the country. Wi-Fi wireless services are offered in every resort.

Credit Cards: most global credit cards are accepted throughout the country, your photo ID will be required in most transactions.

Travelers Checks: are not accepted in commercial establishments, neither banks.

Tipping: a 10% tip will automatically be added to your restaurant bill. You should check your bill carefully, especially before paying an extra tip. Tour guides and drivers expect tips.

Taxes: a 13% VAT tax is tacked on to hotel, restaurant and most service-industry bills.

Attire: visitors should wear clothing designed for tropical countries, made of cotton recommended for outdoor adventures and horseback riding. A light jacket is recommended for long bus rides or visiting volcanoes, as temperatures can drop as low as 50°F.

A block of discounted rooms is reserved for conference participants starting at EUR 525/night + VAT per night for a Deluxe Room. Rates include Full Buffet breakfast at Restaurant San Fernando. A one-night deposit will be due at time of reservation with full payment due thirty days before arrival. Rooms reservations, less the one-night deposit, are refundable if canceled at least 30 days before arrival.

If reserving your room prior to your registration, your course registration must follow within 7 days of booking your room or your reservation will be subject to cancellation.

How to Get to Seville

Seville is easy to get to by plane or train. The Seville-San Pablo Airport (SVQ) is located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the city center. There are direct flights to Seville from many major European cities. You can also take a high-speed train from Madrid, Barcelona, or Granada.

Flying to Seville

Seville Airport (SVQ) is located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the city center. It is a well-connected airport with direct flights from major cities in Europe, including Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, and London. The journey from the airport to the city center takes about 20 minutes by taxi or bus.

Taking the Train to Seville

Seville is a major hub on the Spanish rail network. Renfe, the national railway company, operates high-speed AVE trains from Madrid to Seville in just 2 hours and 40 minutes. There are also regular train connections from other major Spanish cities, such as Barcelona, Valencia, and Granada.

Driving to Seville

Seville is located about 530 kilometers (329 miles) from Madrid. The drive takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes. The A-4 motorway connects Madrid and Seville.
