Hula in the Hawaiian Islands
On its surface, hula is the storytelling dance of the Hawaiian Islands. As with all of Hawaiian culture, when you are fortunate enough to learn more about it, much deeper, more powerful and empowering truths may be revealed. Hula can be paired with chants or contemporary music, slow and sentimental in tempo or fast and energetic. But no matter its style, it is all part of a cultural practice of sharing a trove of stories that connect dancers and audiences to the foundation of Hawaiian ancestral knowledge. Hula animates history, genealogy, prophecy, and the tales of those who came before.
Enjoy the Beach, Pools and Spa
Kapalua is home to the six bays favored by Maui’s benevolent Chief, Pi’ilani. It is here that the people were blessed with the spirituality of the culture, an abundance of sea life, water sports, and a beauty that only nature could create.
Golf at the Kapalua Golf Course
A bucket-list destination for any golfer, the two championship courses at our Kapalua golf resort in Maui are as challenging as they are beautiful. The Plantation Course, consistently ranked as one of Hawaii’s finest, hosts the PGA TOUR’s The Sentry, while the Bay Course is a player favorite. Surfing on Maui
For first-time surfers, Maui offers lessons at far-less intimidating surf spots in West Maui and South Maui, at beaches in Kāʻanapali, Lāhainā and Kīhei. Another option for first-timers is stand-up paddle boarding, which uses larger boards for surfers to stand upright on, using a paddle to maneuver. Maui is also famous for another form of surfing: windsurfing. Hoʻokipa Beach on Maui's northern shore is considered the windsurfing capital of the world.
No matter which style of surfing you want to try, lessons are highly recommended for your safety and the safety of your fellow beachgoers and surfers.
