Hiking on Kauaʻi
Since 90% of Kauaʻi is inaccessible by road, hiking is a great way to see the island's natural splendor first-hand.
On the West Side, Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe State Park offer some of the best hiking trails on the island. Spread over 4,325 acres, Kōkeʻe State Park features trails leading to scenic lookouts (like the Awaʻawapuhi Trail) and hikes for the family (Cliff Canyon and Black Pipe Trail).
Hula in the Hawaiian Islands
On its surface, hula is the storytelling dance of the Hawaiian Islands. As with all of Hawaiian culture, when you are fortunate enough to learn more about it, much deeper, more powerful and empowering truths may be revealed. Hula can be paired with chants or contemporary music, slow and sentimental in tempo or fast and energetic. But no matter its style, it is all part of a cultural practice of sharing a trove of stories that connect dancers and audiences to the foundation of Hawaiian ancestral knowledge. Hula animates history, genealogy, prophecy, and the tales of those who came before.
Enjoy the Pools, Lagoon and Spa
With an award-winning multi-level pool, beach access, luxurious spa and fitness center, the Grand Hyatt Kauai is an ideal seaside retreat. Float down the lava-rock-lined lazy river past waterfalls, quiet seating nooks and secret caves or whoosh down the 150-foot waterslide.
Golf at the Popiu Bay Golf Course
Between lush mountains and rugged ocean cliffs on the sunny South Shore of Kauai, Poipu Bay Golf Course boasts 18 championship holes with seashore paspalum greens that are as visually stunning as they are challenging. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Poipu Bay is one of the most highly acclaimed resort courses in the Pacific. As the host course of the ‘94-‘06 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, it has wholeheartedly earned its title of one of America’s finest places to golf. Play where the champions play, and experience the sheer pleasures and daunting challenges this course has to offer.
Kayaking on Kauaʻi
Kauaʻi is home to the only navigable rivers in Hawaiʻi, so kayaking is an integral part of a unique Kauaʻi vacation.
Relax and take in the exquisite scenery as you paddle down the Wailua River. This popular river for kayaking weaves by lush, jungle landscapes along with island’s East Side. Other river routes include the Hulēʻia River from Nāwiliwili Harbor in Līhuʻe, as well as the Hanalei River on the North Shore, the longest on the island.
